KernzaCon Showcases National Perennial Grain Community

An article from the publication AgUpdate highlighted the recent KernzaCon event in Fargo, North Dakota, that brought together participants working on Kernza® perennial grain research and commercialization efforts across the United States. The event, which took place in early June of 2025, gathered Kernza researchers from a number of different disciplines and collaborating institutions to highlight current research projects and progress in breeding, agronomy, ecosystem services, soil health, food science, market development, and more.

Members of the Kernza network featured in this article include Claire Keene of North Dakota State University (NDSU), George Annor of the University of Minnesota, Valentin Picasso of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Hank Brown of the grain and agronomy business Arthur Companies, and Kernza food and beverage makers Perennial Pantry, Sustain-A-Grain, and Drekker Brewing. This piece notes the diversity of participants in this movement and the different fronts working simultaneously to build Kernza into a successful crop.
