New Cascadian Farms 1% Kernza® Initiative Supports Perennial Grain Market
General Mills recently announced that it will be advancing the US market for Kernza® perennial grain through their 1% Kernza Initiative, which will quadruple the use of Kernza in four of its top-selling flake cereals. This initiative will serve as a major driver for the emerging Kernza market, incorporating the perennial grain into familiar and high-volume products, and offering the sweet and nutty flavor of the perennial grain.
Using a consistent and high volume of Kernza in these Cascadian Farm cereals offers farmers a more stable market, consumers a way to support regenerative, perennial agriculture, and ecosystems to benefit from increased perennial grain production that supports healthy soils, clean water, and carbon sequestration.
