A comprehensive new report titled “Putting Down Roots,” produced by Ecotone Analytics, Friends of the Mississippi River, and the Forever Green Partnership, lays out a realistic path to cleaner waters and more profitable farms through the use of continuous living cover crops such as Kernza. The report provides an assessment of how these cropping systems being developed by the University of Minnesota’s Forever Green Initiative can reduce nitrogen loss and soil erosion while also delivering economic benefits for growers.
“This is an opportunity to turn bare, unused cropland acres into powerful engines for a healthier environment and economy.” —Trevor Russell, Water Director at Friends of the Mississippi River and Lead Author of “Putting Down Roots”
